Moosehead Premium Dry Speedway
AKA Exhibition Park Motor Speedway
1/3 mile paved oval in Halifax, Nova Scotia
|
This
is how Moosehead Premium Dry Speedway looked in December of
2003. Moosehead was 1/3 mile, paved oval that opened in June
of 1998 and closed in 2001. It was sometimes known as Exhibition
Park Motor Speedway. These photos come to CanadianRacer.com
courtesy of Terry Dalton who was visiting relatives in Nova
Scotia and was kind enough to make a visit and take some photos.
The track is located on the grounds of Exhibition Park on Prospect
Road just outside Halifax, Nova Scotia.
The promoter of the Maritime Legends Cars, Ron Hefler, convinced
the management of Exhibition Park to build an oval. Hefler was
the promoter for the first two years. In its short life Moosehead
ran Sportsman, Street Stocks, Hobby Stocks, Mini Stocks, Hornets
and was a stop on the Legends tour and for MASCAR. The owners
of the property, Trade Centre Ltd, took over the track management
in the last two seasons. Car counts dropped and attendance dropped
off. The decision to close the track was based on financial
losses.
For a track that only shut down quite recently, there isn't
much left. The grandstands are gone and most of the track surface
has been ripped up. The pavement for the front straight is still
intact. The corners and back straight are roughly visible. The
front wall and fence are still there and the start/finish line
can still be seen.
