One that that could be included in your Ghost Speedways section is Checker Flag Speedway, once located just outside of Windsor, Ontario on High #42. It was either a 3/8 or 1/3 mile paved, slightly banked track, but it used to be dirt.

A housing development is located on the site now, and I doubt if there's anything left of the track or facilities that could be photographed.

The racing used to be very good, but the facilities were a bit shabby, and the track announcers worse. It all worked together for a fun Saturday night.

My defination of Ghost Speedways are ones where there are some remains. Like you mentioned Checker Flag was completely redeveloped for housing.

I'm working with the Canadian Motorsports Hall of Fame Archives to document every track that ever existed in Canada. That's where places like Checker Flag and about 620 other long-gone tracks would be listed.

There was a track in Tilbury so that was probably it.

Thanks for the directions to Model T Speedway. I tried finding it last summer but I didn't know exactly where it was. It sounds like I was right there but I didn't see the grandstands. I'll try again sometime this summer now that I know where to look.

Now if someone can point me to Teviotdale and Wallace Speedways.

Regarding Ghost Speedways and the reference to Windsor, Ontario(Checker Flag Speedway)  all that remains of this track is the original Pit Road entrance gate that for some reason still exists today.  I'm sure very driver, fan, crew member who has ever partitpated in the raceing days of CFS still looks at the gate and smiles.  I personally hope they never take it down.

The remnents of one old track in Windsor dating back to the early 50's still exists in Windsor.  I believe the name was the old Bluebird Speedway and it was a very short 1/4 mile track.  The track and the stand supports are stil there, located behind a small stip mall at the corner of Howard and McDougal(kiddy corner from the Veterinarians shop.  You can drvie behind the mall and see the track which is within 5 fet of the fence.  As you walk through the brush, this track appears out of no where and is a very interesting find.  My older brother showed it me a few years ago and I never knew it existed.  My father and uncles raced there.  Another track in Windsor was located on the same grounds as the current Devonshire Mall but didn't last long.  Was also a horse track with a short lifespan.

Thanks for the info on Dayus. I had heard it was still there but did not have exact directions.

Any chance of you taking some photos  of Dayus and the Checker Flag pit gate and e-mailing them to me? Windsor is a long drive for me.

The track that was on the site of the Devonshire Mall must have been Bluebird Speedway.

There used to be a paved (I think 1/4 mile) oval in Cobble Hill B.C., called "Shearing raceway" or "Shearing racetrack". It was located just East of the Island Highway on Cowichan Bay Rd. In 1972 the pavement was still there, and though the access was blocked, it was possible to get in and take your street car for a spin around the flat oval. (Been there, done that.)  Thearea has since been developed for housing. Anyone out there have any further info? i.e. when it was open ,what classes ran there etc. tnx JS

If you are still looking for pics of Dayus Speedway and if the gate is still there from Checker Flag, I can get them for you. Can take some digitals and send them to you whenever you want.

Was at the Dayus remains today and walked around the track. Alot of trees and brush but track is still easy to see. Only part of racing surface that is gone is what appears to be one of the turns where a factory is now located. Overall there is still quite a bit of the racing surface remaining. Not exactly sure where the posts are located or what is in the infield as it is too covered with bush to get in right now. Mosquitoes will drive you nuts.

Regarding Onslow - I don't think it's reopening after all. There were some reports earlier in the season but now nothing. A few people have reported the same thing - no sign of life at the track.

JACKPOT SPEEDWAY, Yes track still exists. My dad purchased the property about 16 years ago. I'm glad to have found this web site, I always been interested in finding information and stories on this 1/2 mile Ghost Track where speeds hit 100mph.

Location: Williamsford, Ontario, at Hwy 6 and McCulough Lake Road, go west on McCulough Lake Road past the arena and baseball field, past the first consession road, at the second consession (Consession #4 road) make a right (north), past the first street on the left, continue and on the east side you see a white house, small lake and old wood grand stand.

 A small ticket both shack, concrete wall which wraps around turn #1 and along the grandstand still exists. Also, flag man stand at turn #3, speaker poles dangling in the wind. The shape of the track is still visible. I will be posting existing photos of the site, stories and some memorabilia in the future.

I heard there was another track nearby (Model T Speedway), now I know where to find it and its name, thanks to your web site.

To car57 - Mosquito is a ghost track but let's hope it comes back soon.

I don't have anything on a track at Warsaw, unless it went by another name. Let me know what you find out.

Can you give some more info on the Canadian tracks that you mentioned? I have Iroquois and Maxville on the list with almost no detail. South Mountain is not on my list.

Any info you can provide would be appreciated.
