This is how
the paved Brighton Speedway looked in April of 2005. These photos
are nothing new to the fans of the current Brighton Speedway dirt
track - they've been parking on the old track for over 35 years.
The old Brighton Speedway opened in 1968 (or possibly earlier).
Lou Reddom was the original owner. The track raced on Sunday afternoons
with V8's, 6 Cylinders and Flatheads. The current dirt track opened
in 1970, with both tracks running that year - the dirt track on
Saturday night and the paved track on Sunday afternoon. The paved
track was not as successful as the dirt one, so Reddom closed the
paved track after the 1970 season. The grandstands were moved to
the dirt track.
The old track was used for go-kart rentals for a while beginning
in the 1980's. The yellow lines on the track indicate the kart course.
The tires were also added for karting. Turns 1-2 were highly banked.
They were taking up a lot of room in the parking area so some time
after 1970, they were ripped up.
If anyone has any more information on Brighton Speedway (the paved
one!)- photos, programs, points champions, years in use, etc please

This aerial photo appeared in Wheelspin News early
in 1981. It shows the dirt track on the left and the
paved track on the right. The hand is that of Lou Rinaldi
who had just bought the track in late 1980. The Rinaldi
family still owns Brighton today.
